fission appointed to assess options for Gold Coast public transport network development

fission is delighted to have been appointed as subconsultants to PwC to support the assessment of a number of transport options intended to further enhance and support the development and growth of the Gold Coast.

Options include a potential future extension south of the Light Rail Stage 3, linking Burleigh Heads to Coolangatta via the Gold Coast Airport. This project will service important cultural and urban attractions including the Burleigh Head National Park, Palm Beach Village Centre, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Southern Cross University, Gold Coast Airport and Coolangatta shopping and business precinct.

As part of the Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) and Quantitative Multi Criteria Assessment (CMA) phases fission will undertake the following:

  • Provide critical analysis of the design and scoping information issued by PWC’s Technical Advisor (TA)
  • Support in optioneering and value for money outcomes
  • Develop seven capital cost estimates, including:
    • Multiple transport modes and alignment
    • Pedestrian access
    • Upgrades to bridges and structures
    • Road and intersection upgrades.
  • Undertake risk and contingency assessments.

fission’s David Darbyshire welcomed the opportunity to further support public transport development on the Gold Coast, “fission has a proud history of supporting the development of critical transport infrastructure on the Gold Coast. In 2018 we delivered the cost, risk and schedule for the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3A Business Case and over recent years have provided strategic hands-on cost advisory support throughout the planning and procurement stages, which has included extensive contractor negotiations associated with variations, claims and Best Practice Industry Conditions.  We are also part of the client team for the upcoming design and construction phases.”

“We are therefore delighted to announce our latest commission and are thrilled at the opportunity to provide continued strategic support for the development of a world-class public transport system for the Gold Coast. This latest win is testament to our proven track record of success and the quality, consistency, experience, and capacity we bring to the best transport projects throughout Australia”.
