fission Welcomes Dean Hooker as Estimating Manager – Major Projects

fission is delighted to welcome Dean Hooker to the team in the role of Estimating Manager – Major Projects. Dean joins fission with a wealth of experience in construction, having started his career as a 9-year-old labourer for a small civil contractor in the school holidays.

Since then, Dean has built his career in infrastructure, working his way up from labourer to leading hand before moving from the tools to the site office as an estimating assistant before becoming estimating manager for a tier one contractor where he supported the tender and pricing of major projects in Queensland, New South Wales, and the Northern Territory. An expert in first principles estimating, Dean’s 17 years of pricing multidisciplinary tenders in the civil construction industry will add further depth to fission’s already highly skilled and knowledgeable team.

Fission’s Roger Burman welcomed Dean to the team, “We are delighted to welcome Dean to fission. Dean’s experience is second to none, and he has a unique perspective on the realities and practicalities of major projects, having worked on the delivery and development of major works. Dean’s site-based experience and head office knowledge are the perfect combination of skills for fission as it is through a deep understanding of construction and engineering processes that enables fission to support our clients as they plan, procure and schedule critical projects. We look forward to the contribution Dean will make to fission’s continued growth and success,” said Roger.

Dean’s experience spans many of Queensland’s major flagship infrastructure projects supporting and winning tenders from projects in the road, rail, aviation, tunnel, renewables, and energy sectors valued between $100k and $5bn. Gold Coast light rail Stage 3, Sunshine Coast Airport expansion, Kidston pumped hydro, Maroochydore Road and Mons Road Interchanges and ARTC Inland Rail – North Star to Narrabri are all projects that have benefited from Dean’s input, expertise and knowledge as he successfully secured tenders on behalf of John Holland Group.

“I am extremely excited to join fission,” said Dean. “fission is an organisation with an outstanding reputation for their quality of work and the support they offer their clients. I cannot wait to bring my knowledge of the sector to support our clients’ projects. My appreciation of the practical challenges that can impact the success of major infrastructure and construction projects and my strong relationships and connections with clients, contractors and suppliers across the market will complement fission’s team, and I look forward to getting started.”
